ICYMI: McKinley a Proven Leader in Congress

When U.S. Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., went to Congress in 2011, he did so because voters in our region of the state wanted someone to stand up for us against an assault of President Barack Obama's ultra-liberal policies.

McKinley has fulfilled our expectations, and more. He has become a recognized leader in the House of Representatives - an effective advocate for West Virginians.

He is up for re-election, and it is clear voters in the First Congressional District should keep him in Washington.

On many issues, McKinley has reflected his constituents' desires and best interests. In doing battle against the war on coal, he scored an unusual victory over Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency by forcing the EPA to back away from a plan for ruinous regulations on coal ash.

Far from a knee-jerk advocate of his political party's policies, McKinley analyzes proposals with the eye of an engineer, which was his profession in private life. He understands fellow West Virginians want government to do what works, not merely what a particular ideology prescribes.

McKinley has been effective for us in the House of Representatives. On Tuesday, voters should re-elect him.
