ICYMI: Keep McKinley As Congressman

The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

October 18, 2014

Voters in our area of West Virginia, the First Congressional District, have had reason to be grateful for our good judgment in sending David McKinley to the House of Representatives.

Since early 2011, McKinley has served our region courageously and capably. He has fought hard to safeguard West Virginia jobs from liberal assaults such as the war on coal and Obamacare.

His background as an engineer has served us - all Americans, for that matter - well. One example involves President Barack Obama's Environmental Protection Agency and its plan to treat coal ash as toxic waste.

Pointing out coal ash is used in a variety of products ranging from concrete to drywall, McKinley crafted a bill that, with bipartisan support, prompted the EPA to back away from the plan.

In ways ranging from service to individual constituents to concern about ensuring Social Security is there when older West Virginians need it, McKinley has justified our confidence in him.

The list of endorsements of him merits notice because of its depth and breadth. Both union and business groups back him. So do the Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association, West Virginia Coal Association and West Virginians for Life, to name just a few.

The Intelligencer endorses McKinley because of his record and the need for people like him in Congress. On Election Day, one of the easiest choices First District voters will have is to re-elect David McKinley.
